DESCRIPTION
Puget Sound Educational Service District seeks a dynamic, culturally responsive Director of Student Support Services to serve as the leader of prevention/intervention, behavioral health, school health, school safety, and threat assessment teams. -This leader will be given the opportunity to address traditional and historical system practices and stereotypes that have caused disparate harm to certain student groups. -The Student Assistance Program Director?s leadership will serve in collaboration with internal staff; local school district staff/administrators; students; families and community members to implement gap closing student assistance programs; and collective efforts to shift system practices and adult behavior to ensure student academic, safety, and social emotional success.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with a wide variety of people on specific policy issues and site-based training follow-up for the purpose of implementing and maintaining programs and/or assisting in problem solving with Learning, Teaching and Family Support customers.
  • Compiles a wide variety of data for the purpose of analyzing issues, developing and implementing proven practices in schools and communities.
  • Conducts training for school district personnel and community agencies in areas of expertise for the purpose of conveying information related to developing expertise in learning support systems.
  • Contributes to the development of communication, mutual support, competence, and creativity among all members of the Learning, Teaching and Family Support Department for the purpose of securing alternative funding and/or ensuring compliance with established requirements.
  • Develops training aids, training curricula, and other educational materials for the purpose of aligning best practices prevention curricula with educational reform practices.
  • Directs programs/cooperative for the purpose of ensuring that the aims, goals and objectives of the program are accomplished in accordance with prescribed timelines, priorities, and funding.
  • Embodies the principles and practices that form our culture and commitment to becoming an Antiracist Multicultural Organization for the purpose of meeting the Agency?s End: Success for Each Child and Eliminating the Opportunity Gap by Leading with Racial Equity.
  • Facilitates meetings and educational workshops for the purpose of identifying issues and informing participants of state and federal prevention mandates.
  • Maintains a variety of manual and electronic documents, files and records for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance with district, local, state and federal regulations.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, etc. for the purpose of assessing program effectiveness, providing for professional learning and/or integrating instructional practices into the curriculum.
  • Promotes the development and awareness of PSESD, and specific services and programs for the purpose of communicating significant educational changes, trends, regulations, and the state of the art developments related to school climate, health, safety, and support activities.
  • Represents the PSESD for the purpose of providing information to local, regional, state and other committees related to student support.
  • Seeks proposals for the purpose of preparing and securing funding to help support projects related to social emotional and physical health, safety and support goals, objectives and activities.
  • Supervises personnel (e.g., provide coaching and consultation on technical issues, adaptive challenges, personnel matters, strategic opportunities, career goals, professional development, job performance, etc.) for the purpose of advancing the development of effective leaders and high performing teams and achieving agency and departmental objectives.Other Functions

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA/BS Degree in Instruction, Public Health, Social Work, Human Services or related field AND job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility. -
  • Demonstrates a commitment to leading with racial equity and understanding of antiracism
  • Ability to explain and model the behaviors needed to undo the disparate effects of the current system -
  • Professional experience in public K-12 educational system or in social work, including experience with instructional leadership; facilitating groups; and leading professional learning for adults
  • Experience working with diverse groups toward common goals -
  • Experience leading and supervising staff toward shared outcomes
  • Experience in budget development and management
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Professional experience writing grants -
  • Knowledge and experience with school safety and/or threat assessment efforts -
  • Demonstrates an asset-based philosophy where students are valued for their diversity
  • Professional experience with community-based agencies
  • Experience with application of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support framework and Social Emotional Learning
  • Experience with behavioral health practices (substance abuse, suicide prevention, mental health, etc.)
  • ESA, CDP, Mental Health credential, or psychologist license, DSHS counselor license or social worker license - -
  • Experience analyzing data to identify and implement gap closing practices
