Join Our Talent Network The VP, Community Health Investment is accountable for advancing a coordinated, multi-faceted and proactive community investment effort across Providence and affiliates in support of our vision of Health for a Better World. This includes our traditional community benefit programs as well as system community programs. This leader's charge is to expand our focus from the traditional community benefit approach to a multi-faceted community approach that relies on multiple sources (community benefit funding, St. Joseph CP Fund funding, system funded programs) to transform our communities. The leader will leverage opportunities and resources to achieve measurable success across Providence and will work in partnership with local regions, facilities and members of the community, as well as with a wide spectrum of organizations, service providers, government agencies, faith communities and businesses. This position will have a key leadership role in community relations and building strategic external partnerships. The leader will ensure the strategic alignment of community benefit programs, investments and partnerships across the system, based on local community health needs assessments. The leader will also ensure integration with strategic and financial planning processes, compliance with federal and state mandates, and appropriate system policies and initiatives. Facilitates sharing of best practices related to planning, funding and evaluating community benefit programs and is responsible for educating Senior Management, employees and System/hospital Board members about community benefit initiatives. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The VP, Community Health Investment will have the following accountabilities. S/he will: Be accountable for our Community Programs within Community Partnerships including regional community benefit programs, system programs, and Community Services infrastructure such as CHNA, CHIPs, and 990 reporting. Define the strategic imperative and key tactics related to community investments that advance the Providence core system strategy and address the needs of the poor and vulnerable. Establish measurement structures that ensure the successful monitoring and achievement of long- and short-term improvement goals and priorities. Partner with Executive Director, Shared Services to ensure they are integrated into our data, analytics and reporting infrastructure. Oversee structures for the reporting of community benefit expense that provide an accurate and complete reporting of costs associated with providing programs and services, as well as the development, implementation, and evaluation of an effective process to meet federal and state requirements; this includes community health needs assessments, community benefit plans, and reporting to ensure that Providence St. Joseph Health fulfills its charitable purpose as a tax-exempt organization. Ensure the execution of community health needs assessments (CHNA's) and community benefit planning initiatives across Providence, in support of the core system. Implement collaboration, coaching, and mentoring programs for local community benefit directors and coordinators in assessing their communities' health needs and assets; developing and managing community benefit initiatives; utilizing evidence-based approaches; measuring and reporting program accomplishments and results. Create and own the framework for best practice dissemination for community programs. Plan, facilitate, and/or execute events, summits, symposiums, and meetings as required to support program objectives. Develop strong relationships with Population Health, Mission, and clinical leadership to support population health goals. Oversee the development, prioritization and implementation of policies and system level organizational structures to implement community benefit initiatives based on best practices. In partnership with "Advocacy, Caregiver Activation and Social Responsibility" area, support legislative and public policy advocacy to local, state and federal government officials for issues that impact the health and well-being of the community. Represent Providence on a national level on task forces, projects, or initiatives focused on community health issues. Mentor direct reports (and skip level reports) and leads performance development and related activities. Drive accountability with regional community health investment leaders to serve as dyad partners with the Government Affairs regional leaders - partnering specifically to increase caregiver activation in advocacy, volunteerism, and giving. This will help drive the overall Caregiver Activation strategy for PSJH and affiliates which is owned by the Advocacy, Engagement & Social Responsibility team. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS Required experience/education for this position include: Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Clinical or related fields. At least 8 years of leadership experience. Knowledge and experience of community benefit standards as developed by the Catholic Health Association (must be willing to obtain this within 6 months if not already part of knowledge).
