The Team
The Business Development & Licensing team supports the Program Strategy Teams (PSTs) in executing priority agreements with private sector partners for access to key assets and technology for charitable purposes, focusing on transaction execution and best practices for engagement and negotiation.
The Role
The Deputy Director will support PST goals by identifying and evaluating strategic partners and licensing opportunities, coordinating negotiations, and developing agreement structures that consider technical risks. The role involves partnering with stakeholders in for-profit biopharma companies to advance global health initiatives.
Responsibilities

  • Structure and co-lead agreement transactions to bring innovative health assets from concept to commercialization.
  • Support development and execution of private-sector engagement strategies, evolving access terms for affordability and sustainability.
  • Negotiate agreements with multinational pharma and biotech companies, considering regulatory and public good data sharing.
  • Organize and lead agreement transaction teams, conduct due diligence, support negotiations, and present recommendations to leadership.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with internal functions to ensure effective transaction execution.
  • Facilitate opportunity assessments, due diligence, and development of agreement recommendations.
  • Manage multiple complex opportunities across PSTs, ensuring alignment with foundation objectives.
  • Drive decision-making processes and participate in developing the foundation's business development capabilities.
  • Support the development of key relationships with biopharma companies and other partners.
  • Identify synergies across global health strategies.

    Experience and Qualifications

  • 15+ years in the biopharma industry, with experience in executing complex agreements across therapeutic areas.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degrees (MBA, PhD) preferred.
  • Experience in multiple functional areas within multinational biopharma companies.
  • Proven track record in negotiating technology-related transactions, including IP and data sharing agreements.
  • Experience working with multinational corporations and in global health initiatives is highly desirable.

    • Strong negotiation, legal, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to understand innovation and new science/technology.
    • Knowledge of the biopharma industry dynamics, especially vaccines.
    • Financial analysis and strategic decision-making skills.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
    • Ability to operate flexibly in complex, ambiguous environments.
    • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (> 50%).

      Additional Information
      The salary range is $233,600 to $362,200 USD, adjusted for location and experience. Employment is contingent upon a successful background check.
