Job Description:
This unique and dynamic role is focused on advancing equity and
racial justice in the communities that Kaiser Permanente services
in Washington. The Community Health Program Manager will support
efforts to address systemic racism and improve the overall
conditions of health in communities that have a history of
marginalization and disinvestment. This community-facing role will
include relationship building with community organizations, grant
making, and program implementation. The Manager will also work
closely with internal Kaiser Permanente departments such Equity,
Inclusion and Diversity and Communications to foster connection and
engagement between KP employees and the communities they serve.
Responsible for managing programs including planning,
implementation and business operations for initiatives to address
identified health and social needs in communities. The focus of
these initiatives will include, but is not limited to, health care
and coverage, economic opportunity, school health, social health
and wellness. Leads or supports meetings, internal and community
events, research, community engagement, communications, evaluation
and reporting. Leads or supports cross-functional engagement
between KP departments and cross-sector collaboration in
communities. Guides and supports grant-making and other
contributions.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Program Management: Manages programs including planning, design
and operations of national and regional initiatives that address
community wellbeing based on business priorities, community health
needs assessment and community engagement. Uses data to identify
areas of greatest need and areas of opportunity for access to care
and coverage, community health programs, workforce or school health
initiatives, and grant making. Reviews grant proposals for grants
committee and national board of directors. May participate in site
visits and provide technical assistance to grantees. Supports
community organizations in responding to grant and sponsorship
opportunities. Recruits and/or maintains relationships with
community-based organizations participating in KP national
community health initiatives.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Manages strategic partnerships with
community, government and other stakeholders to address
determinants of health related to health care access, mental health
and wellness, economic opportunity, access to healthy foods and
physical activity, and other areas. Partners with stakeholders on
program development and implementation, events, community
engagement and other initiatives.
- Strategic Implementation: Manages planning and implementation
of national and regional community health programs, projects, and
initiatives. Supports regional and national teams and Communities
of Practice to develop and deploy innovative approaches to
population health improvement.
- Communications: Supports current communications representative
in the development of communications to update programs, related
stories, factsheets, press releases, news articles and other.
Participates in collaboratives, working groups, advisory boards,
committees, panels, and planning groups.
- Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:Experience
- Minimum five (5) years of combined relevant experience in the
areas of community based public health initiatives, policy,
systems, environmental change strategies, and healthcare.Education
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, project management or
health-related OR four (4) years of experience in a directly
related field.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)
required.License, Certification, Registration

and networks.
- Solid written and oral communication skills that demonstrate

- Knowledge of policy approaches to public health improvement.
- Existing and emerging knowledge of best practices in organizing
and implementing community health policies/programs. Proven project
management skills, and ability to maintain high productivity amid
competing priorities.
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgment under pressure.
- Ability to prioritize and manage own work; exercise independent
judgment, initiative and motivation. Proven ability to think
strategically, act tactically and follow through to produce
deliverables.
- Professional history of stability and progressive success.
- Demonstrated skills in problem solving in a complex
environment, and ability to work effectively and drive consensus
among diverse stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in leading initiatives with diverse
stakeholders.
- Experience in grant proposal review and/or writing.
