Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking a Senior Level Mechanical System and Design Analysis Engineer Everett or Renton, WA.
We are a team that supports all Boeing models both in development and in airline service. - These models include programs such as the 737MAX, 747-8, 767/KC-46A Tanker, 777/777F, 787, the B-52 Engine Replacement, VC-25B Presidential Aircraft, new generations of 777X, or all-new airplane(s) that are currently in early developmental stages.

Sr. Engineers must support the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment requirements to establish the system design. Encouraging high aircraft performance while operating in compliance with regulatory (FAA, EASA, etc.) requirements.

The position requires the Sr. Engineer to contribute and support supplier maintenance, or modification of system, component, and installation designs/proposals to provide design documentation to downstream groups development, test, and production activities and directs the supplier to optimize integration and achieve program goals. The Sr. Engineer will work under general direction while training team members that support one of three sub-teams within Environmental Controls Systems (ECS):

737MAX-10 Development
767/777/787 Production and In-Service Support
Product Development and Future Study

Primary Responsibilities: Enabling high aircraft performance while operating in compliance with regulatory (FAA, EASA, etc) requirements.
Modernizing (example: Fortran code) analytical models into modern toolsets (example: Matlab/Simulink code).
Interfacing with intra-Boeing engineering teams, such as Flight Deck Crew Operations, Pilots, Electrical Systems, Stress, Structures, Propulsion, and Aerodynamics.
Integrating and automating several federated ECS flow-analysis or heat transfer models into a singular tool-set and Propulsion and Aerodynamic models.
Leading Junior Engineers, fostering independent problem-solving.
Maintaining a positive outlook that is focused on driving closure and building positive relationships and work well with a diverse team.
Systems Controls Support, including Dynamic Tuning, Lab & Flight Test Support & Factory and Airplane Delivery Center Support, and In-Service Issue Troubleshooting and Reliability Improvement Projects.
Team management within the Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA), Environmental Control Systems (ECS) organization to develop, produce, deliver and support customers who fly Boeing airplanes.
System Safety Analysis Documentation, including the creation of Fault Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEAs), Fault Tree Analysis (FTAs).
Building Airplane Support Manuals, such as Fault Isolation Manual (FIM) and Component Maintenance Manual (CMM).

The selected candidate will be required to perform work onsite in Everett, WA or Renton, WA.
The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. - 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience): Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
9+ years of engineering experience related to the following: system controls, mechanical systems, systems modeling, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): Exercising strong project management skills to independently execute a variety of projects to completion.
Utilizing the Boeing Problem Solving Method (BPSM) to investigate the root cause of problems faced both during development and in-service by our customers who use our products.
Collaborating with other organizations such as Aerodynamics Performance and Stability & Control, Structures, Flight Deck Crew Operations, Pilots, Electrical Systems, Systems Stress, Customer Services & Airline Customers, Factory and Flight Line Operations, Supply Chain, Airplane Safety, and many others.
Resolving a variety of issues and improvement programs.
Learning about legacy development processes and certification Methods of Compliance while actively helping transition Boeing to leverage Model-Based Engineering (MBE)/Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodology to write requirements, and conceptual systems.
Helping plan and execute developmental and certification testing and design/conduct flight tests.
Supporting engine manufacturer certification on their flying testbed vehicles.
Clear communication skills for reporting progress to a wide audience (cross-discipline engineering groups consisting of Aerodynamics, Propulsion, Structures, and ECS).
Technical Knowledge in system controls, mechanical systems, systems modeling, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
Experience with model correlation from wind tunnel and/or flight test data to analysis tools and hands-on wind tunnel testing experience.
Learning about legacy development processes and certification Methods of Compliance while actively helping transition Boeing to leverage Model-Based Engineering (MBE)/Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodology to write requirements, and conceptual systems.
Experience with JIRA, Azure DevOps, DESE/Cameo, Matlab/Simulink, Scripting code (Matlab, C++, Fortran), Thermal CFD Tool (ANSYS Fluent, Star CCM+, OpenFOAM or other), SINDA/FLUINT, LEWICE3D, FENDSAP-ICE.
Develop a project schedule, then maintain deliverable releases on time.
Experience with model correlation from wind tunnel and/or flight test data to analysis tools and hands-on wind tunnel testing experience.
NOTE: Highly trained analysis SME's in this group model the sub-freezing water droplet impingement on protected surfaces, evaluate runback ice characteristics, perform correlation with wind tunnel and/or flight test data to enable certification activities and improve predictive capabilities for future airplane development programs.
This job presents an opportunity to grow into becoming one of these SME's or to learn how to be conversant and use this analysis in the overall airplane development and certification processes.
Meteorological knowledge or a private pilot's license would be a plus.

Typical Education/Experience: - Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

In locations where SPEEA representation applies, this position will be covered by the terms of the collective bargaining agreement. Applicable and appropriate educational/certification credentials from an accredited institution and/or equivalent experience is required.
Current employees working in Puget Sound and Portland may require an Employee Request Transfer (ERT).
