Get started!Sr. Design Engineer / Sr. Project Engineer - Battery Electric Vehicle Mechanical Systems IntegrationPACCAR's Zero Emissions department is focused on new technologies such as battery electric, hydrogen fuel cell electric, and advanced vehicle concepts that eliminate harmful emissions in the heavy and medium duty transportation industries. The grant program will focus on the demonstration of battery electric technologies in a real-world fleet operation starting with currently available technologies, progressing to next generation designs, and ending with future technology demonstrations. If you want to be a part of the team shaping the future of zero emissions commercial vehicles, this is the role for you.This team will support and deliver the mechanical integration expertise needed to develop and demonstrate advanced battery electric vehicle technologies. From early concepts to prototype designs, both roles will focus on packaging, structural, and thermal aspects of vehicle design leveraging a systems engineering approach. These roles will be responsible for both retrofitting next-generation prototypes and the delivery of future vehicle and architecture solutions that optimize the performance of commercial vehicles designed specifically for electric propulsion.Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Design the mechanical, and thermal components for integration of next-generation high voltage components, mega-charging systems, and e-powertrain solutions into a small fleet of existing and future technology demonstration trucks.
  • Build and support retrofit and commissioning activities with a hands-on approach.
  • Analyze designs for performance, structural and thermal performance using advanced simulation techniques.
  • Document and report findings of investigations and development path to share insights and gather feedback to refine future focus.
  • Support and contribute to the product development roadmap for advanced electric vehicle technologies through collaboration with suppliers and colleagues across the PACCAR global organization.
  • Provide written and verbal updates to communicate status, changes, risks/gaps to vehicle program timelines and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Less than 25% travel.Qualifications & Skills
    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Technology is required.
    • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Business is preferred.
    • 5+years' experience in aviation and or automotive engineering translating new ideas and concepts into prototypes through detailed design processes is required.
    • Experience with 3D modeling software including modeling and analysis is required. Candidate should be a very strong to expert user of modeling and analysis/simulation software tools.
    • Experience with hands-on assembly and operation of prototype vehicles is preferred.
    • Experience with electric vehicles or high voltage electric systems preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across diverse teams to meet objectives and timelines.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to deliver technical presentations and written reports to diverse audiences.
    • Willingness to grow personally and professionally, ready to learn and make use of new processes and techniques. Be resourceful with problem solving approach.
